When I had a knee replacement in 2025, I was seeking activities to try out the new joint. The successful PVS ski trip to Snowmass, CO, encouraged me to try hiking, and I found a women-only Road Scholar program centered in Shawnee-on-the-Delaware that promised an adventure. The knee did fine. The rest of me could have used additional conditioning, but I had a great time. As I have learned to expect, Road Scholar programs are well organized and Road Scholars themselves are fun and interesting people to spend time with. We had a ball. AT Overview Map

The Appalachian National Scenic Trail starts in Georgia and ends in Maine (or vice-versa). It passes close to my home in Lexington and I have hiked various segments in Virginia, but this excursion would be in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

There are a couple of ways to follow me on this trip. I've tried to make the narrative a complete summary, but I've used many links to other web sites to provide additional details and sometimes pictures. You can either stick with the basic narrative or explore the various links. At the time this album was created the links were all valid, but the WWW is in constant flux and that can change. If you encounter broken links, please send us some email.
